INDIA INTERNATIONAL LEATHER FAIR (July 28 – 30, 2011), Delhi

India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) organized the for the first time India International Leather Fair (IILF) in Delhi from July 28-30, 2011. The fair was organized in close collaboration with Council for Leather Exports (CLE), and active support from Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Indian Shoe Federation (ISF), Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association( IFCOMA), and Indian Finished Leather Manufacturers Association (IFLMEA).

Shri Rahul Khullar , Commerce Secretary, Government of India, inaugurated the Fair on July 28, 2011. After the inaugural ceremony, the fair was open to business visitors.

IILF’ Delhi 2011 covered a gross area of over 2500 sq.mtr. There were 100 exhibitors including 17 from overseas mainly from Italy and China. IILF Delhi was held concurrently with the maiden edition of Exporivaschuhindia organized by Riva Del Garda , Italy in Hall 14. IILF maintained its lead position providing a vital platform for buyers and sellers alike in the leather and leather related segments.

A comprehensive range of products and services relating to leather industry – Finished Leather, Footwear Components, Machinery & Equipment, Chemicals, Software, Publications, etc. were on display at the Fair.

A THEME PAVILION TITLED “TECHNOLOGY AND TRENDS SHOWCASE was set up jointly by Central leather Research Institute (CLRI), and ITPO where the best of Indian merchandise and future trends in colour, style and designs were exhibited. CLRI also brought out a newsletter titled “New Orientation” at this occasion.

Concurrent to the fair, seminars/presentations were organised on the following topics:

  • “Tariff & Non-Tariff Barriers in WTO : Its Implications to the Indian Leather Industry – A Critical Overview” by Shri R.S. Ratna, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Govt. of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
  • Global Retail Scenario_ Global footwear consumption-sourcing supply and demand in major markets by Mr. Peter Mangione
  • Sustainable Growth –A Challenge to Footwear Industry by FDDI.
  • Domestic Market Scenario by Mr. Inderdev Singh Musafir-MD M& B Shoes
  • Globalisation and CSR( in relevanse to Footwear industry) by Mr. Yves Morin-president CTC group, Italy
  • The brand Inside (information on how important it is to have the owners raise the bar internally, within their companies and not only externally) by Mr. Ketan Vyas-MD MV Shoe care Pvt. Ltd..

  • Presentation on “New Technology and Power Save on Manufacturing of Footwear” by Mr. Di Bella Charly, M/s Elettrotecnica B.C. S.p.a., Italy
  • Presentation on “Tackling Moisture Problems faced by the Leather Industry” by Mr. Prateek Bhaumik, M/s Bry-Air (Asia) Pvt. Ltd.
  • “Leather Research “by Dr NK Chandrababu, Scientist G & Head, CSIR-CLRI Tannery Division

The seminars were full house and appreciated by the participants as they provided the much needed knowledge support required by the industry.

About 2877 business visitors visited the fair out of which 89 were overseas business visitors from 23 countries. The visitors were from a host of countries like Australia, Bangladesh, China, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, UAE, UK & USA.

A newsletter “New Orientation” was brought out on the inaugural day of the fair giving salient features and important happenings by CLRI. The newsletter was well received by exhibitors and business visitors.

The brief overview of IILF' Delhi 2011 is given below:

As per initial feedback from exhibitors, the likely business generated during the fair was to the tune of Rs. 850 lakhs. About 1500 trade enquiries were generated. In addition about 20 distributorships are likely to be obtained by Indian participants.

Almost all of the participants affirmed that they would participate in IILF Delhi’ 2012.

About 92.10% of the participants indicated that their participation in the fair was cost effective. This indicates the high level of satisfaction with the business, visitor turnover and facilities at the fair. The exhibition ended on a satisfactory note. The proposed dates for IILF’ Delhi are July 26-28, 2012 and will be held concurrently with the Exporivahschuhindia.
